Gypsum veneer plasters are high strength plasters that can be applied more quickly with less material than traditional gypsum plastering. They are designed to comply with ASTM C587, Standard Specification for Gypsum Veneer Plastering, which specifies a maximum nominal thickness of 1/4-inch, and are often specified to have nominal thicknesses of 1/16 to 3/32 inches. Both one-component systems and two-component systems, consisting of a base coat and finish coat, are available. While both can be troweled onto a variety of substrates including masonry and concrete, one-component systems are designed to work best over gypsum veneer base, or “blue board” (for more details see the Gypsum Veneer Base Common Product).
This Common Product describes a one-component gypsum veneer plaster that is mixed with water on site. Details on assembly components such as studs, furring channels, and fasteners, or accessories such as bonding agents and sealers were beyond the scope of this research and may add additional hazards not considered by this Common Product.
