PubMed Searches in Pharos

Pharos is linked to PubMed to help jumpstart your literature searches. PubMed is a database maintained by the US National Institute of Health that comprises more than 28 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books.

On a chemical page in Pharos, you can click the "Show PubMed Results" box to display a row for PubMed hits, which indicates how many and links to search results PubMed returns for this chemical and each hazard endpoint.

To build these searches, we need to search for the chemical and the endpoint. For the chemical, the search terms we use are the CAS registry number, chemical name, and any synonyms we have. For the endpoint, we collected one or more terms for each endpoint. In some cases, PubMed expands our searches using additional endpoint descriptors in the MeSH database, e.g. a search for 'cancer' automatically includes 'neoplasms'.
