The BIFMA Level Sustainability Certification for Furniture provides credit to applicants who identify, assess, and reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals listed in Annex B of the NSI/BIFMA Furniture Sustainability Standard in processes and in maintenance or operations
This list is derived from authoritative hazard lists which identify chemical substances which are:
– persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT); and/or
– reproductive toxicant; and/or
– carcinogen; and/or
– endocrine disruptor
The following substances lacked CASRN and were not included in the Pharos version of the 2019 BIFMA list:
- 5-Chloro-o-toluidine
- A mixture of: 4-[[bis-(4-fluorophenyl)-methylsilyl]methyl]- 4H-1,2,4-triazole; 1-[[bis-(4-fluorophenyl)methyl-silyl]- methyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole
- Chlorophenoxy herbicides
- Glasswool fibers (airborne particles of respirable size)
- Methoxyetylacrylate tinbutyltin, copolymer
- Polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxin-like with a Toxicity Equivalency Factor (TEF) according to WHO (PCBs 77, 81, 105, 114, 118, 123, 126, 156, 157, 167, 169, 189)
- Soots
- Tributyltin carboxylate
- Tributyltin polyethoxylate
- Welding fumes
