More about Universal Metal Primer

In most cases, architecural coatings require a primer before application to interior metal substrates such as steel. The primer supports adhesion to metal substrates and also offers protection against rust and corroision. This CP was scoped for primers that are compatible with water-based or solvent based intumescent coatings. Suitable primers include single component acrylic (water-based) or alkyd (solvent-based or water-based) systems, as well as two-component epoxy based systems. Single-component solvent-based alkyd primers were found to be most common and are the focus of this CP.
