More about Historical: Non-Combustible Sodium Silicate Caulk - 2016
This CP describes a single component, non-combustible sealant with a sodium silicate chemistry. This is a non-intumescent mortar-type caulk which is designed to meet ASTM E-136 requirements for non-combustible materials and is used as a draft, smoke, and fireblocking sealant. The caulk can be used to seal penetrations around ducting and electrical and plumbing penetrations. The noncombustible specification is common for one and two family construction and non-rated assemblies in multi-family and commercial construction. This type of sealant is not recommended where there is continuous vibration or in areas expected to come into contact with water.
