Water lines are constructed with Type M, hard temper copper alloy C12200. Type refers to the thickness of the pipe wall; Type M is the thinnest of the types identified in ASTM B88. The pipes are seamless and identifiable by a red stripe where trademark and country of origin information is stamped. California Building Code indicates that most solders referenced in ASTM B 32 can be used to join copper pipes for potable water systems.
