Gelcoat bathware is made by applying a layer of gelcoat over an inverted form and allowing it to cure. Two layers of fiberglass and resin are placed on top of that, sandwiching a core material that helps to provide the shape with additional rigidity and reinforcement. Once cured, the product is taken off of the mold, and the gelcoat layer provides the shiny and smooth surface expected in bathware. While gelcoat bathware products on the market vary in length of warranty and quality of manufacturing materials, gelcoat bathware is generally considered to be a lower end installation. This CP describes gelcoat bathware at the lowest end of the spectrum, as a product that may be specified in a project with a very limited budget.
