Vinyl-coated wire shelving is a common option for low-cost shelving in closets, pantries, or similar spaces. The shelves are made by bracing a series of parallel steel wires with several perpendicular steel wires, welding the wires at their intersections. The assembly is then heated before being “hot dipped” in a bath of vinyl plastisol, depositing a vinyl coating on the wires of the desired thickness.
