Fiberglass acoustical ceiling panels are classified under ASTM E1264 as Type XII. There are a variety of fiberglass ceiling panel options; those included in this common product are comprised of a fiberglass veil or scrim layer adhered to one side of a fiberglass core and factory painted using a white water-based latex paint. Some manufacturers provide an option for panels that use a plant-based binder in the fiberglass core as opposed to formaldehyde-based binders. This CP describes fiberglass panels relying on formaldehyde-based binders, which are more widely available; plant-based binders are listed in the All Contents. Panels offer noise reduction coefficients (NRCs) up to 1.00 and ceiling attenuation classes (CACs) up to 26. Various sizes, thicknesses, layouts, and installation options are available. Some manufacturers also offer other acoustical ceiling products such as clouds in the same product lines.
