Cold-applied emulsified asphalt damproofing is an asphalt-based coating that is applied to the outside of exterior walls in effort to prevent soil moisture seepage. Emulsified asphalt dampproofing typically comes in three types (I,II,III), which vary based upon viscosity values, amount of fibers, and overall application method. For this CP, type II bitumen dampproofing was selected due to its semi-fiborous properties making application by brush or spray highly versatile; and its added use as a protective roof coating with respect to ASTM standard D1227. These products likely contain an antimicrobial pesticide as a preservative before application, but they are expected to be present below the reporting threshold of 100ppm. This CP covers products with a mineral colloid emulsifying agent (Type II, Class 1). Other products may use chemical emulsifying agents (Class II). While outside of the scope of this CP, it is worth noting that Type I products may contain asbestos. While these products can still legally be made and sold in the US, asbestos in Type I products seemed to be phased out.
