Waterborne acrylic latex sealants have replaced solvent-based acrylic sealants for many exterior and interior applications, including sealing window and door gaps, trim, tops and bottoms of wall plates, penetrations, and electrical boxes. Many are available with flame spread ratings ≤ 25. These sealants cure by the evaporation of water. Acrylic latex sealants are customizable and adaptable to green chemistry solutions. Benzoate plasticizers, for example, have largely (but not entirely) replaced phthlalates.
