More about Broadloom Carpet (Nylon Facing, SBR Latex Backing)
Broadloom (sheet) carpeting can be made with various construction techniques, backing and fiber options, and topical treatments. This CP describes a broadloom carpet made with solution dyed nylon 6 face fibers, treated to be stain resistant, that are attached to a polypropylene backing by a coating of SBR latex. This backing option is sometimes referred to as a unitary backing. Carpet manufacturers typically describe the composition of their products by platform, or as an average of all product lines they make. This CP therefore describes an amalgamation of specific nylon faced sheet carpets with SBR latex backings, and may not describe any particular product on the market perfectly. Carpets considered for this CP meet the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label Plus Certification for VOC levels. Stain resistant and anti-static treatments are typical for the industry, and while poorly disclosed, can contain problematic perfluorinated compounds. Antimicrobial additives designed to prevent mold growth are common. This CP describes a single topical treatment imparting stain resistance, anti-static properties to achieve 3kv or less, and mildew protection.
