Fire retardant polyurethane foam sealants are compressed tape of polyurethane foam, impregnated with an acrylic, fire retardant resin. The tape is coated on one side with an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive, which is protected with a release paper. The release paper is removed and tape pressed into joints for installation. Once installed, the tape slowly returns to its original, uncompressed state, thereby forming a tight seal within the joint. These tapes may be used to seal perimeter joints of windows and doors, vertical abutment joints between buildings, and control joints. The sealant is primarily used in exterior applications to protect against weather, moisture, vapor, air, sound, and dust.
